Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Custom Cult ("Custom Cult," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website to design, share, buy, or create custom snowboards. It describes practices for both customers and marketplace designers, including data practices that will be active as our designer marketplace rolls out.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), and optionally your first and last name.
- Body measurements. Height, boot/foot length, and weight that you provide so our calculation engine can build a board that fits you.
- Designer profile information. If you participate as a designer: your display name, avatar, description, home mountain, and social links.
- Order & shipping information. Your shipping address and order history. Payment card details are collected and processed by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers.
- Payout & tax information. For designers, payout and tax-reporting information collected through Stripe Connect.
- Usage & device information. IP address, device/browser data, and interactions with the site, used for security, analytics, and improving the product.
How we use your information
We use your information to build and manufacture your custom board, process orders and payments, calculate and pay designer commissions, provide support, send transactional and service emails, secure the platform, and comply with legal and tax obligations.
Home-mountain location & geolocation
We use IP-based geolocation (via MaxMind GeoLite2) to estimate your general location for things like showing relevant designers and applying region-appropriate settings. Designers can provide a free-text "home mountain," which we geocode to approximate coordinates. We use location to power location-aware designer ranking, for example surfacing designers who ride near you. Precise (device) location is only used with your permission.
Designer data & public algorithms
Our marketplace is built around designers and the algorithms they create. If you participate as a designer, please understand:
- Your board design becomes a public algorithm. When you design and purchase a board, the parameters that shaped it become an algorithm that other customers can discover and build their own boards on. This is the core of how the marketplace works: your design influences boards beyond your own.
- Designer profiles are public. Your display name, avatar, description, and home mountain may be shown publicly to help customers find and choose designers.
- Payouts and tax reporting are handled through Stripe Connect, which may require identity and tax information and may issue tax forms (such as a 1099) where required.
Our underlying calculation-engine math remains confidential and is never exposed.
Third-party processors
We share information with service providers who process it on our behalf:
| Processor | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Stripe | Payments, Stripe Connect designer payouts, and tax calculation |
| Resend | Transactional and service email delivery |
| Cloudflare | Content delivery, DNS, and security/WAF |
| DigitalOcean (Spaces) | Hosting and blob/object storage for assets |
| Replicate | AI image generation for topsheet artwork |
| MaxMind (GeoLite2) | IP-based geolocation |
| Google & Apple | Optional OAuth sign-in |
Cookies & tracking
We use strictly-necessary cookies to operate the site (for example, your session and referral attribution). For visitors in the EU, UK, and Canada, we present a geo-targeted cookie consent banner, and non-essential cookies are only set with your consent. A separate Cookie Policy will accompany our consent experience.
Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Order records are retained (in anonymized form after account deletion) as required for accounting, tax, and legal purposes.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to opt out of certain processing. This includes rights under the GDPR/UK GDPR and US state privacy laws (such as California's CCPA/CPRA, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and Texas). To exercise these rights, contact us through the Contact page.
Account deletion
You can request account deletion from your account settings. We use an anonymize-and-retain-orders approach: your personal information is scrubbed, while anonymized order history is preserved for accounting, tax, and legal needs. Deletion is finalized after a 30-day grace period.
International data transfers
Our launch posture for international customers is passive: anyone may purchase, but our processors are primarily US-based, so personal information of EU/UK and other international users may be transferred to and processed in the United States.
Children's privacy
Custom Cult is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "last updated" date and may prompt you to review and acknowledge the new version.
